Just Black and White...

I work my dogs on stock, trial them in USBCHA trials (granted not this year due to MANY things happening--NOT a good 2008) and they are my farm dogs, they help with pasture rotation, sorting, lambing, vaccinating..you name it. They are all working dogs...

YES I do agility as well...and they are good at both.

Now I have decided that I am planning on breeding Zip, my 5 year old dog that I ran in PN last year, she got injured and will not be able to run in Open :-( She was trained up to Open and I HAD planned on moving her up at the end of that season..but alas, that won't happen. If she trials again she will be in PN for life. I am OK with that....she doesn't care!

OFF the trial field (which I feel is more important anyway) she is an amazing working dog, awesome with ewes and lambs..handles the ram well and reads stock so well she is just brilliant.

She is healthy and happy...I have chosen a stud and I am very excited about producing a WORKING litter. Kathy Knox's dog Jake, the 2005 Reserve Finals Champion, an amazing working farm dog and a GREAT example of the breed.

NO they are not bred for agility...NO they are not bred for flyball...NO they are not bred for obedience...

I have NO doubt they could do all those things, and do them very well...but they are bred to work sheep.

Those questions I can kinda get---although being asked if Jake has "natural jumping ability"....well not sure.....ask his owner if he can clear a fence going after sheep..I betcha he sure could!

The ones I do NOT get are the ones related to COLOR....what color does Zip carry, what color does Jake carry....what colors will be in the litter.

My best guess, BLACK AND WHITE...if you get lucky there MIGHT be a tri in there! WOO HOO!

But no reds, no goldens, no merles, no red-tris, no sables, no blues....

Nope...just boring black and white...boring black and white border collies....

I don't MIND other colors of border collies, I think they are pretty...however I have a bit of an issue with people asking me WHY I am not breeding Zip to a merle so she can have merle puppies...Um....yeah..not even answering that one......

They will all go to working homes--preferring herding homes, but I will also consider agility etc homes...depending on the situation...

I am VERY excited about my working bred, boring black and white litter soon to be in the making...I will be posting updates about everything and pics as well...if you are interested of course :-)

Should be an exciting next several months!
