Not A Purist...

I made a decision and stuck with it...I am going to teach a run and a stop on Lynn's DW. Bottom line, it's another tool to use on courses.  I'll admit I have been fighting it...badly. Thinking I would be giving up if I put a stop on. NOT A CONTACT PURIST. But...as I have been working on it, things are falling into place.

This is the 2nd session I have combined them. It's going well. They are not PERFECT. But I have learned getting picky with Lynn is never a good thing. Greedy doesn't help me with her training. So, she is doing lovely, progressing nicely.

I have worked things in separate sessions. The command is give as she is loading. She knows exactly what to do.

Cons:

Slower of course. But actually not SUPER slower...I'm happy. I will do LOTS of running....LOTS AND LOTS to reward forwardness.
Have to reward stationary, I don't like that--I like running.
Possible confusion down the road when I really start proofing.
Have to do more training (but in reality I would for more turns anyway)

Pros:

Her runs are WAY FASTER AND CONFIDENT
Black and White for Lynn
More handling options
She is targeting the bottom of the board more with her stride
I am happy, she is happy :)

Training...constantly changing...constantly evolving. Ah....dog training :)

I will continue moving forward with this...time will tell if it will all pan out. But I feel it is soooo worth the effort! Any and all feedback is welcome!

She looks GREAT! You may have inspired me to get off my ass and make my stop better.

Gotta say, though, I love having both on Ky. She is my "big competition" dog for the foreseeable and it sure is wonderful to have the flexibility.

Now if I could get *either* with Ten consistently. :-)

I came to the same conclusion with Vito a few weeks ago but haven't put the stop on the actual dogwalk yet. (first wanted to train a 2o2o with speed before I added it to the dogwalk.) *sigh* Although I admit that I feel better in company!

Seems like a great idea to me since both ways are useful on a course - maybe this will become the contact way of the future and you will be a pioneer! :)

Flexibility is the key for sure...Laura...I won't be using it much. My plan is to keep pushing myself to not use it. And I know I will do that. But for a situation where I won't get there or where Lynn is going to question. it's ideal I think :) It's all good!

Thanks Chris! I know people that are doing both...they are coming out of the woodwork :-)
