People are GRAND...

I had someone make a statement today which really made me angry...I thought it was disrespectful and just plain nasty--the comment was:

"Well you work with dogs, how much intelligence does that take?"

As if working with dogs makes one immediately a stupid person?

I could have gone into the fact that I spent YEARS doing Ruminant Nutrition Research at the University of Missouri-Columbia....working with everything from DNA to huge equations used to calculate degradability of proteins to help determine the amino acid requirements of ruminants, thus feeding for amino acid needs, to reduce pollution on the environment by decreasing excess Nitrogen excreted...to running Mass Specs, dealing with hundreds of chemicals, solutions etc etc etc. To helping do surgeries on fistulated cattle...to being published...to whatever else. I went to college, I graduated with honors etc...my husband has a PhD and asks ME questions about cattle at times.....AMAZING!!! Little ol' "works with dogs" me!!!! WOW!!!!

The hubs doesn't walk around acting like he knows everything--totally why I married the boy!!!! :) Don't find that often enough....

ANYWAY.....

In response to this statement, I just smiled...I am sure this person wouldn't understand half of that sentence anyway.

Does one's job automatically make them stupid? I have met some really stupid professors (not naming names for those that went to school with me!) and some amazingly intelligent factory workers!

It is interesting when things like this are said. Yes I work with dogs, I miss research all the time, I loved that job and hopefully someday want to return to that line of work...but I guess for now I will JUST WORK WITH DOGS...gosh, what a horrible thing to have to do!!!

Loretta, dont sweat the small stuff girl! Try thinking about how people look at what I do. Golrified doggie butt washer! Hell if folks knew the half of the knowledge a professional groomer has to have to do their job properly, educate their clients, handle the animals lots who suffer from ailments, seizures, temperment problems, most folks will ask their groomer first before going to their vet! I can do one of two things, I can look stupid, and tell them to go to their vet, which in the end I do, because Im NOT a vet, but I choose to educate my clients to help instil confidence in me in them, and to do that, yea, ya need to know a thing or two, but from what I have seen over the last 26 yrs in the biz, is that most folks view about groomers is that we are just a little above the ground a snake slithers on. But thats OK, cause I know they are the dumb ones, and I just smile too! Dont worry about it, cause in the end, one day, they will have a dog, and will need your advise, and then, you can help them out, but when you do, dont forget to charge the shit outta them! LOL

AMEN Darci!

I WORK at a vet clinic and still my grooming clients will ask me what they should do with a health problem..even after the vet has suggested something. Hilarious.
